Optics Product Review Leupold VX-III

In the world of rifle scopes there are tons of great products out there in the market and as a renowned gear head, I have spent some serious money on rifle scopes over the last twenty years.  On my first elk hunt in the Bitterroot Mountains of Montana with my father, I had the opportunity to see the value of why an investment in a quality scope truly makes a difference.  My father and I were hunting in the famed 270-50 section of Montana and I had the golden tag for Mule Deer.  My Father and I were hunting with rifles built by my grandfather and before the trip I had replaced my scopes and brought a brand new 300 win mag outfitted with a VX-III scope.  Our trip started out with green grass reasonable weather and by the 3rd day of the hunt we were in 10 inches of snow and it was dumping hard.  We were staying in a lodge and driving a truck to our hunting area to gain elevation and look for mule deer and elk.  The frequent trips in and out of the truck caused my fathers scope to fog up and without my replacement rifle my father would not have had the opportunity to take his deer.

On my second elk trip to Idaho while traveling along a steep trail my saddle felt loose and upon getting off the horse and making adjustments my unloaded rifle slipped out of the scabbard and dropped over 20 feet down a rocky hill.  The scope is still nicked to this day but once we got to the top of the mountain, I fired two shots to check the zero of the rifle and it fired perfectly.  This scope was bounced off of several rocks and was still secure and in working order.

In some cases a great hunt in the west can be absolutely ruined by a poor quality scope and if your scope fogs up in the field or breaks in some way your trip could be over.  In my years of hunting and the abuse that some of my elk guns have taken on stalks in the wild have taken by my falls or worse I need a scope and quality rings that can handle the hard conditions of mountain hunting.

Leupold is an American company with over a 100 year history in the optics business.   They have scopes to suite all styles and calibers of weapons and I am absolutely sold on the VX-III scope.  With strong warranties and a strong product, I cannot recommend these scopes enough.  The views are crystal clear and with several different reticles to choose from there is a scope out there for each of you.  Dennis shoots the Boone and Crockett Reticle and I shoot the Duplex but am thinking of changing future scopes to the Boone and Crockett so that I have the opportunity to shoot some longer distances.
