HuntingLife Podcast #88 Broadhead Review by Mitch Strobl and Chris Telinda
Hunting Life Pro Staff Mitch Strobl and Chris Telinda complete a thorough testing of various broadheads found on today’s market. Products such as the Rage 3 blade, NAP blood runner and Thunderhead, G5 Montec, and Magnus Stinger were tested during this review. In order to keep this test as real life as possible, these broadheads were repeatedly shot through actual deer bone. All broadheads were tested at a consistent range of 20 yards, and were shot out of a Mathews Z7. Three Categories were considered in this review: Flight, Cut, and Durability. Of the five broadheads tested, the rage 3 blade stood out from the rest. It handled abuse well, flew like a field point, and penetrated consistently. While the other broadheads may not have received 5 out of 5 stars, they did last long enough to be considered a fairly reliable broadhead. For example, the NAP Blood runner had exceptional cut, however it only lasted for about 3 shots before a blade snapped. The Magnus Stinger held up well, however we feel that the cut is not as detrimental as its competitors. The G5 shot straight and held up well, but simply did not provide the gaping wound like the rage. We would like to point out that there was no hair, skin, or muscle in front of our target, simply bone. Thus, the results may be slightly skewed. However we do feel as though this will provide insight as to what will happen, if you choose to use one of these five broadheads during this season.
