Here at Rio Piedra Plantation we do one thing, and we do it well. We offer Traditional Bobwhite Quail Hunting. In the geographic heart of Georgia’s Classic Southern Quail Habitat. No one does it quite the same. And most certainly, no one does it better.

The total quail hunting experience here is unlike any other quail hunting you might have ever known and harkens back to a more genteel era. This is wingshooting as it once was, when sportsmen by day matched wits with wild birds in their native environs…and by night enjoyed fine dining, gracious service and luxurious surroundings. Plantation-style, challenging quail hunting remains alive at Rio Piedra.

Hunts are customized to the individual hunting party. With over thirty hunting areas, extended visits provide the opportunity to experience a variety of terrains from pristine Longleaf pine forests to gently rolling wiregrass meadows along both sides of the picturesque Flint River. Specially equipped jeeps transport hunters, guides, and dogs to fresh hunting areas every morning and afternoon. You will simply love this unspoiled scenery and classic South Georgia Quail Hunting landscape, with the Flint River running thru the heart of the Plantation.

We also offer exceptionally well appointed guest lodges that can accommodate small groups.

The dining at Rio Piedra has been described as “relaxed 5-star”. Breakfast and dinner are served at the main lodge with multiple dining areas available to accommodate group preferences and privacy. An al fresco lunch is served daily on the open air deck overlooking the Flint River or Lodge Patio areas.

This is the very Epicenter of the Quail Hunting Universe, encompassing nearly 100 contiguous or near-contiguous large plantations, most of whom are completely private and date back to the Reconstruction Era.

And Rio Piedra Plantation sits dead center in the heart of it all.

No other publicly accessible hunting plantation is so strategically positioned. No other publicly accessible hunting plantation is so completely surrounded by the huge PRIVATE hunting estates.

So what does this all mean for today’s Quail Hunter? The answer is rather simple once you think about it: Scientific studies utilizing radio tracking collars have revealed that Bobwhite Quail have a native range of up to 37 miles. At given times of the year there is a dramatic and instinctive dispersal of birds throughout their territories. This is simply nature’s way of ensuring the continued genetic diversity of the species. The result is that, being in the geographic center of this dispersal, Rio Piedra sits at the Crossroads of these migrations and thus enjoys the best-of-the-best when it comes to the continued influx of new birds into our own native populations of Quail.
