Motsomi is a family business owned by Pieter and Ria Potgieter. Pieter and Ria both being nature lovers and Pieter being an avid hunter decided to share their love for the African bush with people equal in their passion for nature. The sole purpose of Motsomi Safaris is giving our clients an unbelievable African hunting experience and to welcome them back as friends. All safaris are fully guided, tailored and personalized for hunters and non-hunters, so your itinerary can be very flexible.
We are strict on fair chase and ethical hunting, that´s one of the reasons why we are members of PHASA (Professional hunters association of South Africa) and we live by their code of conduct.
We hunters will conduct ourselves professionally in a manner, which will reflect honesty, integrity and morality. In the spirit of fair chase, the principle of sustainable utilization of our natural resources will be adhered to, and we pledge ourselves to:
- Obey all laws of the land - Will not misrepresent ourselves to clients in any way or mislead any client - Will not allow material gain to supercede principles of fair chase - Will not hunt any wild animal which is not normally self sustainable nor in its natural state - Will at all times employ humane hunting practices - Will not hunt female wild animals with dependent offspring - Will not allow a client to shoot animals at a distance beyond the capability of their competence or that client´s equipment - Will respect local communities property and input
We do specialize in bow hunting and know what it takes to get a trophy with a bow, because we are bow hunters. We have areas that are set aside for bow hunting only. Bow Hunting is primarily done out of permanent blinds set up at waterholes, which consists of tree, pit and ground blinds. These blinds are regularly monitored with trial cameras to ensure your success.
Shots are normally 20 - 25 yards. For those with enough patience there is walk & stalk hunting. A quiet, fast bow /cross bow with sharp fix blade broad heads will be sufficient for most animals. Please contact us to find out if your equipment is suitable for the game you´re after.
To maximize your hunt of a lifetime in Africa, rifle hunting is mostly done on foot or by means of spot and stalk, depeding on the client's ability and the animal being hunted. .30 Caliber or bigger is a good all-rounder for plains game(with at least 60 cartridges) but a minimum of .375 is necessary for Cape Buffalo and other dangerous game. Talk to us about smaller calibers for women and children.
The animals that call the African bush home are tough and there for only premium grade bullets must be used, Barnes X is always a winner. Importation of fire arms are made easy by pre-arranging your importation permit, which we will help you with.
We do photographical safaris to a number of places like Madikwe Game Reserve and Kruger National Park to experience the wonder of South Africa´s wild life especially the Big Five and to try and take that picture of a lifetime!

Accommodation in the various camps is cozy, comfortable and of a high standard. Lodges are decorated in true African style and all rooms have private en-suite facilities with hot and cold running water, flush toilets, showers and electricity.
Laundry is done daily.
For a cool break from the African heat, a filtered swimming pool amidst the African bush is a welcome relief in the main lodge.
The mornings are greeted with a traditional African brunch whilst the long, hot days are ended with a delicious African feast. Catering can be done for specific dietary requirements. Evenings are spent around a large log fire, with the roar of the wild in the distance many memories of a good days hunt are both shared and enjoyed by all.
At the end of the day, as the afternoon sun sets fire to the African sky, relax around the campfire, enjoy the calm of the African nights as the sounds of the wild pierce through your veins.
After a hard day of hunting a comfortable camp, a nice shower, ice-cold drinks and a delicious meal is all you need to celebrate that great trophy.
