We hunt the traditional way, by horse back in rugged mountain, the way hunting was meant to be!Big game hunting in Idaho has never been better. Hunt free ranging Elk, White tail deer, Mt Lion, Moose and Black Bear in North Central Idaho. We have had the pleasure to hunt all over the world. Frank has harvested over 150 animals, which are displayed in our lodge at the Whitebird Summit Lodge and Guest Ranch. With all of our experiences we have built a premier outfitting business. Taking the best from the best and taking the worst experiences and learning from them. You will find trophy game, great food, experienced guides, sure footed horses and you will come as clients and depart as friends. The experience you will have with us will make you yearn for more and the rugged and scenic terrain of Idaho's vast mountainous forest will steal a piece of your heart, compelling you to come back time and again.
Elk hunts - Often the rut is over by rifle season and we hope for wet cold weather to keep the elk active. Still hunting, spot and stalk and drives are the preferred methods. Hunting wild elk in their natural habitat is perhaps the most challenging hunt in America and when it's good -it's Great, and when it's bad it's downright sinful. Our hunters are restricted to shooting 5x5 or better bulls to insure good bull recruitment and mature animals for the future.
Whitetail Deer hunts - The whitetail average is around 130 B&C with 180 class bucks taken. This area is regarded as one of the top trophy spots in Idaho where many record book bucks have come from. We have nearly 100% harvest rate on these hunts. The hunt occurs during the rut and provides lots of shooting opportunities. Still hunting and rattling is the preferred method. We have the traditional back country camp and the hunt is done by horseback Lodging in the Historic Gilmore Ranch and 20 Mile camp with a traditional tent camp setting. There is little to no other hunting pressure in either of these area
Mountain Lion Hunts - This part of Idaho has produced many record book cats and the genetics are superior here. We have a 90% success on this hunt, and are 100% - 7 out of the last 9 years. You will have two guides to one hunter, we hunt with dogs and by snow cats. This is a great hunt to bring your wife or children. They can participate in the hunt if they would like to or just stay at the Whitebird Summit Lodge and enjoy the evenings with you. Every year we hunt for lion we take a record book cat out of the area. Hunts are customized to fit your schedule anytime in December, January, February and possibly into March if conditions permit.
Moose Hunts - This will take place anywhere within our hunting area which is 325 square miles. We will scout them out and decide where camp will be. If we head into the back country we will hunt by horseback. Out of the lodge we will drive to the hunting area and hunt by foot. Our Moose tags are a once in a lifetime draw and we want to assure you the best possible opportunity to harvest. The NO 2 moose in Boone and Crockett record book was harvested in this area, we have a great gene pool. We can also combine the hunt with black bear and elk.
Bear Hunts – We have harvested nearly 80% colored black bears with a 95% shooting opportunities. We normally hunt over baits and are pack in horseback hunts. The hunters can also hunt Merriam Turkey – unguided as a do it yourself activity.
We believe a trophy cannot be measured by a tape, but instead is measured by its memories. If you are hunting for quality experience in superb country with over qualified people and believe in “let’em go, let’em grow” your hunt is over! You need look no further because we are the outfitter for you. We understand that quality is earned and successful can be measured by the babies you let walk! We also understand that you can’t get a whopper every time, but could never if we didn’t selectively harvest game!
