Moose hunting with Blue Sky Outfitting

Our moose hunting area, WMU 544, in the famous Peace River country in north western Alberta, Canada, WMU 544 is located in prime moose habitat producing trophy class antlers. The average antler spread of our hunter’s bulls is 35-40 inches, with spreads that can be over 50 inches possible

Our moose hunts take place right from our lodge in McLennan Alberta we hunt in logged blocks, natural salt licks, lakes, and cut-lines. We use pickups or quads to transport you into prime moose hunting areas.

The best of moose hunts are during November when the bulls are yarding up in groups of males in feeding areas. November offers opportunity at many of the larger bulls with snow allowing for tracking into the hot spots.

Wild Free Range Wood Bison Hunts

In Alberta, we have several free ranging herds of Trophy Bison, of which only one area that is hunted. It is a fact that the Wild bison have always existed in this range and man has never pushed them out of the area. We know of nowhere else in North America where you can hunt native, free ranging bison in their natural habitat.

Fortunately, these bison are not a pure wood bison. This allows us to export your cape and horns to the United States. Although not pure wood strain, a bull may weigh up to 2600 lbs. and cow 1500 lbs.

Generally, May or June, expect temperatures ranging from (32 F - 70F). It will be the hunter's responsibility to get to Fort Smith North West Territories. A guide will meet you and escort you to the camp. Most of the traveling from that point will be done on snowmobile, quad, or agro. Each hunter will have a guide (1 on 1), although some traveling will be done in-groups. It is common to travel up to 80 km (50 miles) in a day.

The very elusive timber wolf inhabits the same vast Boreal forest region as the Bison. They can be hunted with fair success at any time during the hunt.

Your days will be filled with excitement tracking down the legendary buffalo. The hunt can be long and difficult but for the avid Trophy hunter it is the thrill of a lifetime.

The rewards for the dedicated hunter can be great however. Studies have shown that many of the bulls in this area are positively ancient, and trophy potential very high. As well, there is the satisfaction of having hunted one of the rarest and most awesome trophies, a true free ranging bison on its northern range!

Coyotes

Imagine this, calling in a coyote from up to a mile out, watching him come in the whole way until he is within 50 yards or less, hair bristling, looking for supper, it’s the rush of a lifetime! Our three or six day hunts are based from the lodge from November thru to the end of March, and are a great winter hunt!  The boreal forest farm land transition terrain provides high numbers of these wary predators in Northern Alberta give hunters an exciting hunting opportunity.  We use numerous calling methods to lure the coyotes in for a close shot or we test out our optics for a long range shooting opportunity.

The hides are thick and in perfect prime condition. The color is usually a light silver or pale, and they have good size to them. If you're interested in making a coyote fur coat, or just hanging a pelt in the den, these are the skins you want.

Take advantage of our coyote hunting expertise. Our guides have several years of calling under their belts, and they are prepared to bring the coyote’s right in to you. Whether it is fall or winter, we have techniques designed for the condition.

Wolf

Our wolf hunts run from November thru to end of March. We will use bait piles, spot and stalk, and calling hunting methods. At this time of the year there will be snow so we will travel by snowmobile or quads while hunting. You can expect a kill percentage of about 50%. In Alberta the wolves and coyotes limit is all you can shoot.

Alberta wolf and coyote hunts can be very exciting with an excellent opportunity to take more than one wolf and coyote. The wolf color variance is great from salt and pepper to white and jet black.  Mature wolves from this area have skulls measurement of about 17-18” and will weigh well over 100lbs. These are the ultimate trophy predator.

The wolves of the Wood Buffalo National park area are the largest canids in the world; the park bison the continent's largest prey. Depending on the time of year, there can be between 160 and 500 wolves preying upon the 8,500 bison. That roughly translates into one wolf for every 2.6 square kilometres of territory in the Peace-Athabasca delta where the highest concentrations of wolves are found. Put another way, every six or seven days in winter, one adult bison is killed by an average sized pack of ten wolves. In summer, it is three calves that are taken. Nowhere else in nature is there anything quite like it.
