Conservation Hawks Supports Climate Scientist

BIGFORK, Mont. – Conservation Hawks, a group of hunters and anglers working to defend America’s sporting heritage, has released the following statement in response to a recent New York Times op/ed by NASA scientist James Hansen:

Climate scientists usually speak in terms of “probability” or “confidence.”  While they may express very high confidence (90 percent or greater) that the earth is warming because of increased CO2 levels, they rarely make definitive statements like “We are forcing temperatures higher with our fossil fuel emissions.”

This fact makes Dr. James Hansen’s recent New York Times op/ed,  "Game Over for the Climate," truly exceptional.  Dr. Hansen, who heads NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, writes that climate change is placing the entire planet at risk, and that President Obama has failed to provide the necessary leadership on the issue.

Anti-Hunting Bill Passes California Senate

(Columbus, OH) –California Senate Bill 1221, a bill that will ban the use of hounds to hunt black bears and bobcats, passed the state’s Senate today. The passage of SB 1221 by the senate casts a dark cloud over the future of all hunting and wildlife management in California.  Senate Bill 1221 passed with a vote of 22 to 15 in favor.

The bill, which is sponsored by the radical animal rights group Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), triggered a strong outpouring of opposition from California sportsmen and women, plus sportsmen’s organizations, in the state and nationwide. The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance (USSA) denounced this retaliatory wildlife management bill that was created when HSUS could not have a state game commissioner removed for his legal mountain lion hunt.  As the bill moved forward from introduction and through the hearing process, hundreds of opponents wearing orange “NO on SB 1221” buttons also packed the corridors of the capital to let their Senators know they opposed this anti-hunting bill.

High Drama in the Desert to Close 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Shotgun

TUCSON, Ariz. (May 20, 2012)

Vinny, Frank and CoreyThe 525 targets thrown in Men’s Skeet during the two-part U.S. Olympic Team Trials weren’t nearly enough to decide one of the nominees for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Sunday in Tucson, Ariz.  For three worthy adversaries, Olympic fate would go to sudden-death with a 25-target shoot-out.

After a nearly flawless performance by Vincent Hancock (USAMU/Eatonton, Ga.), the 2008 Olympic gold medalist earned his way back onto another Olympic Team but held off celebrating until his skeet teammate was determined. Jon Michael McGrath (Tulsa, Okla.) entered the event final three targets up on Mark Weeks (USAMU/Clinton Township, Mich.) and Frank Thompson (Alliance, Neb.) and in the driver’s seat for Olympic selection.  Having missed just one target in 150 previous shots, McGrath dropped three targets in the final-round while Weeks and Thompson aced their final test with perfect 25s forcing a 25-target shoot-off. In Olympic selection procedures, a full 25-target round is substituted for the normal sudden-death shoot-off from station four.

REGISTRATION OPENS FOR NORTHEAST REGIONAL FIELD TARGET CHAMPIONSHIP AT CROSMAN

ROCHESTER, New York, (May 18, 2012) - The Northeast Regional Field Target Championship (NRFTC) hosted by Crosman, is back for its third year and registration is now open.  The event, on July 6-8, will be held on the campus of Crosman Corporation in Bloomfield, New York.

According to
Crosman Shooting Services Manager, Mark DeBoard, having the event on the Crosman campus allows participants and visitors to do more than compete.  “This is a unique event for field target competition, since it’s held right here at Crosman.  So in addition to a shooting competition, we have a factory tour, product demos and plenty of staff to answer questions or simply talk airguns,” he said. “Of course, since this event is designed to attract more people to field target competition, we try to challenge national competitors, while providing a forgiving enough experience for shooters new to competition,” said DeBoard.
