POMA Conference 2010 by Mitch Strobl

It has been said that there is power in numbers. In the case of the Professional Outdoor Media Association, the saying rings true. POMA is a proven leader in the outdoor industry, providing a family for those pursuing a career in the outdoor industry. Prostaffers Justin Morrissey, Chris Telinda and I had the pleasure of attending the 2010 POMA conference as guest students. Before departing at the end of the conference, the three of us said our goodbyes and kind of looked at each other in amazement. It finally hit us; we just had an exceptional weekend at the POMA conference, more so than any of us could have imagined prior to the event.

Upon arrival, we attended a seminar directed towards those less than 35 years of age. Well respected people such as Mr. Jim Zumbo, Hunter Specialties Phillip Vanderpool, Tony Smotherman, Brandon Butler, Will Brantley, Keli Van Cleave, and many others talked directly to us in a three hour seminar.

SPOT Messenger Promotion

Shameless promotion of great products has never once bothered me.  I will not hawk junk but I will not hesitate to push the products that I absolutely love.

SPOT Messengers are GPS Tracking Devices and these units are important to all hunters, backpackers, fishersmen, Paddlers, climbers, skiers and outfitters.  They can show you a tracking history for where you have been and if you are in trouble they will allow you to send out messages to alert friends, family, and be rescued should you need that assistance.

This unit does everything it says it will and is a great tool giving you the peace of mind you and your family needs when you are in the outdoors.

Our Promotional Code for SPOT Messenger is HuntingLife23 and that provides you with a full year of tracking!!!

Check out the SPOT MESSENGER!!!

Scott Archery Release Review by Logan Hinners

One of the items I love having in my gear bag in company my Mathews Z7 is my new Scott Archery release. I have used a release for many years now and can still remember to the day when I bought me my very first one. It was a Tru-Fire release that I used for years until recently sharing it with a youth who had just took an interest in shooting archery. He needed one and my old Tru-Fire still worked well even after all the shooting I had done with it.

Recently, I was able to use a Scott Archery release. I was surprised with my findings, it was top notch. I guess I should have expected nothing less from Scott Archery.

I got turned on to the Little Bitty Goose by a buddy of mine who was shooting in leagues with me over the summer. It is similar to the Silverhorn in that it has a buckled wrist strap and soft fabric. The buckle on the “LBG” functions the same way as the Silverhorn. Don't get me wrong; it is better than Velcro, but sometimes tough for fat fingers on this archer. The one I ended up purchasing was in full camo and that I truly liked (nothing to do with the function though). This particular release also has the nylon strap running from the wrist to the hook. Huge selling point for me because I can tuck it into my wrist strap when I am climbing a stand or just to get it out of the way on a hike. It isn’t a solid metal rod from wrist to finger like so many of the release aids today that get so bulky and always seem to be catching on or getting in the way of something. The “LBG” Is also a very lightweight release and has a closed hook at the end instead of the open style hook. At first, I had a hard time getting used to it. I had become accustomed to using an open hook, but it didn’t take long for me to remedy that. Using the LBG is simple and I could close the hook around my d-loop and know it was always connected to my string. I have shot over a 100 arrows with it now and have no other words to explain its functionality other than it is awesome!

I have to say that I was very impressed with Scott Archery and their release. They have a unique design and is a first choice of mine when selecting a release aid. I highly recommend the Scott Archery releases.

Firearms Industry Responds to Anti-hunting Attack on Traditional Ammunition

NEWTOWN, Conn.—The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry, has announced its opposition to a petition filed today with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seeking to ban the use of traditional ammunition, containing lead-core components, by America’s sportsmen and women. The petition, filed by several agenda-driven groups including the Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), erroneously claims that the use of traditional ammunition by hunters is inconsistent with the Toxic Substance Control Act of 1976. The petition goes on to suggest that the use of traditional ammunition poses a danger to wildlife, in particular raptors such as bald eagles, that may feed on entrails or unrecovered game left in the field.

“There is simply no scientific evidence that the use of traditional ammunition is having an adverse impact on wildlife populations that would require restricting or banning the use of traditional ammunition beyond current limitations, such as the scientifically based restriction on waterfowl hunting,” said NSSF President Steve Sanetti.
