Happy Friday

Happy FRIDAY!!!!

As you can tell I am excited because tomorrow is a hunting day for me and I am as excited as can be to get out there, raise up the TreeWalker Treestand and pull out the new 25wssm Browning A-Bolt and watch the sun rise up over the Rappahannock River.  The tree I am going to be in is about 10 feet from the shore and I can't wait for the deer to come rolling under the stand.

It's going to be a beautiful day!

Good luck to all the hunters out there this weekend and to my good buddy Dennis who will be in his stand at about the same time in the Pocono's, may big bucks grace you all with their presence and offer you all broadside shots at 50 yards.

Patrick Burns from Terrierman Blog wrote a great article/post about the liberal case for gun ownership go see his article.

Tough Birds by Mike Johnson

As unbelievable as this story may sound, it is true. There are no exaggerations and no lies. This is a true story told just as it happened.

Last spring turkey season was crazy! As soon as I was done with finals, I headed up to the farm. The timing couldn't have been any better. Finals week was during the first week of turkey season. That wasn't a big deal because in Missouri, you can only kill one bird during the first week. With school out, I had the next two weeks to fill my tags. Little did I know that it would take nearly two full weeks.

I hunted harder than I ever had. I was up before sunrise and didn't head back in until 1. Dad and I had turkeys all around us every morning. They answered calls while still on the roost. One morning we counted atleast five toms, all within about 100 yards. Every morning, the turkeys would fly down from the roost, hang out for a bit, answer some calls, then disappear. We tried so many different techniques, but nothing worked. After 8 days of hunting without seeing one of our ghostly turkeys, I decided I was going to do anything it took to kill one.

Wolverine Boots - Extreme Comfort for a cold Manitoba Hunt

Testing Products is new to me and it is not a process that I take lightly.  Testing a product such as boots makes me even more nervous especially when on that hunt, I had heard about nothing except the extreme cold that we would be experiencing in Manitoba.  So I packed two pairs of boots on this particular trip.  I could not afford to have a cold pair of boots and not be able to stay in the stand for the entire week.  So with two pairs of boots I had my bag weighing in at a cool 62lbs and luckily no one even checked the weight on my bag.

Luckily and happily, I never had to reach for my second set of boots because the Wolverine Boots passed everything I expected out of a boot.  These boots were warm and comfortable.  I had not broken these boots to be honest and literally had taken them out of the box and threw them into the bag.

Learn more about how these Wolverine boots held up.

A Weekend away from hunting to go surf fishing with my son Tristan in the Outer Banks

Moments introducing kids to the outdoors are truly priceless!

A weekend off for one on one time with my son Tristan.  We took off at 5:00am on Saturday and made it back home by 8pm on Sunday.  We had an absolute blast.  Our first stop was the Wright Brothers Memorial which was our learning moment for the weekend and then we were off to the bait shop and then to the beach.

We had a great couple of casts with a fish in the first 30 minutes, Tristan's first ever fish out of the ocean was a nice 5 lb Red Drum.  We had a great afternoon and Sunday was just as good.

More Pictures from our trip to come soon...

Wyoming County Residents Form New Pheasants Forever Chapter in New York State

Attica, N.Y. – November 21, 2007 – Residents in New York's Wyoming County have formed the state's newest Pheasants Forever (PF) chapter, the Wyoming County Chapter of PF. The chapter, the state's tenth, is dedicated to increasing the local pheasant population through habitat improvements.

Located in western New York, Wyoming County's pheasant population has dropped off mainly due to changes in farming practices. "We're in a rural area," said Ken Fridmann, the chapter's newly-elected president, "There are bigger farms than there used to be, and that has meant fewer hedgerows that the birds can call home. And the smaller farms have become overgrown and are in need of management."

Indiana Food For the Hungry

As gun seasons in Midwestern states begin to get under way, many hunters will be taking to the woods in hopes of harvesting a deer.  This time of year, thousands of hunters take to the woods for their annual one weekend hunt.  Others however, have been hunting since the beginning of September learning the deer patterns and scouting their favorite hunting areas.  Some do not even plan to hunt this year, but will because their children would like to get out and try it.  Whichever category you fall under, you need to know about the FIsH program in Indiana.

Rifles In Indiana: Is There An Advantage To Using Cowboy Killers?

Several Midwestern states have allowed hunters the use of rifles for many seasons to harvest deer.  Kentucky and Tennessee are two just to name a few.  While Illinois and Indiana in the past have “stuck to their guns” and only allowed shotguns, bows, pistols, and muzzleloaders; Indiana has decided to jump on the band wagon and allow rifles to join the array of weapons allowed to harvest deer in the state.  This has been an ongoing debate in Indiana for several years.  As the policy makers in Indianapolis have come under fire for the increased number of vehicle to deer accidents and the rising numbers in the deer population, they finally caved in and allowed rifles to be used for the first time in the 2007 deer season.
