One of the greatest things about working in the hunting industry is the getting to meet wonderful people and getting the opportunity to talk with these individuals who share the same passion that you do.  At the Safari Club International Hunter’s Convention, I had the pleasure of meeting Olivia Nalos.  Olivia has been involved in the hunting industry for many years and yet most people are going to recognize her as Mrs. Nebraska.  There is no question that Olivia is a very beautiful woman and a tremendously accomplished hunter.  Olivia is also a spokesperson for all of us in the hunting industry.

Before her reign as Mrs. Nebraska, Olivia had the opportunity to work with Cabelas as a hunt facilitator for their team and then work for Dick and Mary Cabela directly(it was during this time that Olivia ran for Mrs. Nebraska).  She also had the opportunity to hunt in many different places around the world. On her trips to abroad Olivia carries with her a blue bag from Safari Club International to bring humanitarian aid to hospitals further spreading the message of the great work being done by hunters.

I asked Olivia about her reign as Mrs. Nebraska and she had nothing but great things to say about the opportunity that she had in representing the state of Nebraska in this pageant.  Over her year reign, she had the opportunity to meet with 100’s of groups and be a spokesperson for our industry in a non-abrasive approach.  Her many speaking opportunities gave her an opportunity to speak with people from all approaches of life about her passions.  Talking with hunters about conservation is like preaching to the choir and Olivia is more then happy to talk with hunters, but with her title she had the opportunity to talk with literally 1000’s of people who may not of been hunters about her passions for hunting and conservation.  These kinds of conversations can lead to opening up the minds of the public and spread the message of conservation.

Talking with Olivia, I gained some very interesting insights that I just had not thought about in the past.  One of her statements that kind of caught me off guard, but I understood clearly was that Olivia stated that she is a woman and she was not going to abandon her femininity just to go hunting. Being a woman does not stop just because she is out hunting pursuing her passions and she would still get up, take care of herself and then go out and hunt really hard.
