NWTF's Contributions Recognized at Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation Event

To uphold hunting traditions, the NWTF and its 2,350 chapters have contributed $613,000 since 1994 to the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation (CSF) and the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC), a fact that was recognized during a presentation at CSF's annual banquet Wednesday, Sept. 26 in Washington, D.C.

One way these dollars are put to work is to provide advice, support and information to the bipartisan members of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus. With nearly 300 U.S. Congress members, the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus is the largest caucus on Capitol Hill and an important ally for sportsmen and women.

"The Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation is a great partner and a proven force in defeating anti-sportsmen legislation and advancing pro hunting bills," said Rob Keck, CEO for the NWTF. "Their work with members of the U.S. Congress ensures that sportsmen have a voice at the highest levels of government."

In 2004, the CSF expanded this successful model to state-level legislatures, forming and strengthening state caucuses and creating the National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses (NASC) to help fight groups with an anti-hunting agenda and to support pro-hunting measures at the state level.

This year's legislative sessions for the 33 state sportsmen's caucuses saw great success with the passage of 175 bills enhancing hunting and fishing across the country.

Highlights of legislative victories include increasing the number of states passing "No Net Loss" legislation, expanding youth hunting opportunities and increased attention by legislators on the need for dedicated funding for state fish and wildlife agencies.

"We recognize the importance of this link between sportsmen and decision makers at both national and state levels," Keck said. "Over a decade ago, the Federation saw the opportunity to answer the call first as a partner to the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation and most recently as a founding partner of the state caucus initiative."
