Hunters Fishers and other Naturalists in North America will love it
Wild America is the most comprehensive resource for learning about America's Game Birds and Animals and for simply viewing American Nature as entertainment. It presents films, audio and photos of virtually every single species of wild animal and bird on the North American continent, and its now back in the spotlight.
The show's creator, camera man, and host - Marty Stouffer - has announced two new ways to experience the realities of "living wild", both being drawn from the first and only television series to profile America's rich wildlife heritage. And both based upon the many millions of feet of film that Stouffer has exposed over a lifetime of filming in the wild, from Panama to Alaska and from Maine to California.
Stouffer's company, Marty Stouffer Productions, has been located in a mountain cabin near Aspen, Colorado since 1970, and has just released the entire library of 120 Wild America Series Programs and 12 one-hour Specials for purchase on Dvd. Simultaneously, it is all now also available for the first time as Video Downloads on the Internet.
Online, all formats are supported, from Quicktime to iPods and iPhones to the very latest of modern media like Tivo and Divx. The videos can be "streamed" live and viewed immediately or they can be "downloaded" for continuous viewing on a particular format at a later time.
This is the very first time the award-winning, critically acclaimed - and at times controversial - television Series has been available for purchase. Previously, only the "Best of" Specials had been sold - very successfully - as Vhs Home Videos in Drtv (Direct Response Television) televised offers. Over one million of the videos were sold in the few years before 2000.
The Series, presented as a set of 24 Dvds, captures the beauty, grandeur, drama and diversity of America's wild lands and wild creatures. There is simply nothing else that even comes close to its breadth and depth of coverage. It is truly unique in every way.
All of the Specials, and also all of the Programs in the Series, are now available as streaming Video Downloads on the website.
Wild America, called "The next best thing to being there!" by TV Guide, is an encyclopedic resource for any animal enthusiast or nature lover. In this unprecedented Dvd collection (which includes bonus and never-before-seen footage) animals live and die, play and mate, feed and get fed up - all in their natural environments, and all on-camera.
In addition to the newly available Dvd library, Stouffer has also launched Wild America into cyberspace. The site, a quaint village called www.WildAmerica.com, has received glowing reviews from visitors who have called it "the most awesome and user-friendly website I've ever seen." The entire site is produced in Flash technology and both the scope and also the interactivity of it simply have to be seen and experienced to be understood and appreciated.
In fact, Stouffer says with a laugh, "There was simply no technology available that would allow anyone to do what we have done. We needed to make Videos available in a user-friendly and efficient manner, downloadable in every possible way so that the whole process would be future-proof. So we had to create it all from scratch. I have learned more than I ever wanted to know about Html and Flash!"
These references are to the technical "languages" of websites. They are what tell the buttons what to do when an Internet Surfer clicks on them. As a result, eight years of effort later, Stouffer has now joined forces with Interactive Flash Producer John Carr of Oxford Mississippi and formed another new company, MedDelTech. Media Delivery Technology, Llc. They reasoned that they had learned so much in the process of their own project that they should now share it with others.
One of the site's most compelling features is the "Wild Cabin," which allows naturalists and curious explorers to get right in the middle of the Great Outdoors. Visitors can explore with wild experts and learn about animal behavior of virtually all of our North American Game Species, these being some of the most common, dramatic, interesting and literally lovable of all the wildlife on our continent.
Even though there is currently a necessary monetary component involved in the high-tech delivery of these Episodes and Content, Stouffer has bigger wishes and dreams.
It is his hope that, someday soon, he will be able to locate a philanthropist individual who, or an organization which, will enable the delivery of this "National Treasure" to everyone who would like to be able to access it. For free, of course.
When that happens, it is his hope that every American will have the opportunity to experience Wild America, a true classic in wildlife documentary filmmaking. Whether they are revisiting favorite episodes on Dvd, researching Game Animals and Birds, or just viewing their Favorite Animals for the pure joy and fun of it, Stouffer hopes that hunters, naturalists, birders, fishers and students of every age will be astounded - and entertained - by their very own wild and beautiful legacy.
